Jesus Was Always God's Plan

A lot of people think Jesus became God’s plan after Adam sinned. Like God created humanity, then Adam messed everything up, and now God had to come up with a rescue plan. But the Bible tells a bigger story. Jesus was never the backup plan. Jesus was always the plan. Colossians 1:16–17 says, “All things were created through Him and for Him… and in Him all things hold together.” Think about that. Everything was created through Jesus. Everything was created for Jesus. And everything is held together by Jesus. That means humanity was never created outside of Christ. From the very beginning, humanity was made for union, fellowship, and life in Him.
Humanity’s True Beginning
John 1:3–4 says, “All things were made through Him… In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” That means humanity’s true beginning is not sin. Our beginning is Christ. Our beginning is Life. Our beginning is Light. Our beginning is the Word. Sin did not define humanity first. Jesus did. This is important because many people only know humanity through the story of failure. But God first saw humanity in Christ before humanity ever fell in Adam.
The Fall Started With a Lie
When Adam and Eve fell, the first thing that entered humanity was deception. Genesis 3:13 says, “The serpent deceived me.” The fall started with a lie about God. The serpent made humanity believe God was distant, God was withholding, God could not be trusted. Humanity began living with a darkened mind. People started believing they were separated, abandoned, and alone. Fear entered. Shame entered. Hiding entered.
Sin Brought Death and Bondage
Romans 5:12 says sin entered through one man, and death came through sin. Adam opened the door to corruption and death. Humanity became trapped in fear, darkness, and bondage. But notice something important: God did not abandon humanity. Humanity became enslaved to sin and death, but God never stopped loving humanity.
Humanity Became Blind
Colossians 1:21 says humanity was “alienated and hostile in mind.” Notice where the alienation happened. In the mind. Humanity became confused about God, confused about themselves, confused about love. People experienced separation in their thinking. But humanity never stopped existing in God. That is why Acts 17:28 says, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” Paul said this even to pagan people who did not understand God correctly. Their minds were darkened, but God was still sustaining their existence every second. God was never absent.
Then Jesus Came
This is where the gospel becomes beautiful. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh.” God did not send a message from far away. He came Himself. Jesus entered humanity fully. He stepped into our flesh, our weakness, our pain, our broken condition. Why? To heal humanity from the inside.
Jesus Became What We Are
Hebrews 2:14 says, “Since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same.” Jesus did not heal humanity from a distance. He became one of us. The early church loved saying this: “What He did not assume, He did not heal.” But Jesus assumed our humanity completely so He could redeem it completely.
God Condemned Sin, Not Humanity
Romans 8:3 says God condemned sin in the flesh. Notice: God condemned sin, not humanity. Sin was the disease destroying humanity. And in Jesus, God dealt with the disease itself. Jesus entered the human condition and defeated sin from inside humanity.
The Cross Was Liberation
Sometimes people picture the cross as the Father attacking the Son. But the cross is much bigger than that. Jesus entered death itself to destroy its power. Hebrews 2:14–15 says Jesus destroyed the one who had the power of death and delivered humanity from slavery to fear. The cross exposed evil. The cross broke bondage. The cross defeated death. Jesus entered the darkest place humanity could go and filled it with His victory.
The Old Humanity Died in Christ
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:14, “One died for all, therefore all died.” And Romans 6:6 says, “Our old self was crucified with Him.” Jesus did not come to slightly improve the old Adamic humanity. He brought the old man to an end — the fearful humanity, the enslaved humanity, the deceived humanity. The old humanity died in Christ.
A New Humanity Rose in Jesus
Then resurrection happened. And with resurrection came a brand new humanity. Ephesians 2:4–6 says God made us alive together with Christ, raised us with Him, and seated us with Him. Paul speaks about this as something already accomplished in Jesus. Humanity’s story passed through death, resurrection, and ascension in Christ. Jesus rose as the beginning of new creation.
The Spirit Was Poured Out on All Flesh
Then came Pentecost. Acts 2:17 says, “I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh.” The Spirit is not just for a tiny religious group. The risen Jesus poured out His Spirit on humanity. Why? To awaken people to what Christ accomplished.
The Spirit Awakens Us to Sonship
Romans 8:15–16 says, “You have received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’” The Spirit teaches us to live as sons and daughters. The Spirit opens our eyes to the love of the Father. The Spirit awakens us to the life already given in Christ.
Sharing in God’s Life
2 Peter 1:4 says we become “partakers of the divine nature.” This does not mean humans become God by essence. It means humanity is brought into communion with God’s life, love, holiness, and fellowship through Jesus Christ. This was always God’s dream: union, fellowship, life together. Jesus did not come to create distance between God and humanity. Jesus came to remove the lie, destroy death, heal humanity, and bring us into the life of the Father through the Spirit. That is the good news. Jesus was never the backup plan. Jesus was always the plan.
