Introduction

One of the most important things you will ever learn as a believer is this: God is for you. Not against you. Not disappointed in you. Not pushing you away. Not waiting for you to become perfect before He comes close to you. God is for you right now. Many people come into Christianity carrying fear. They believe God is always upset with them. They think Christianity is about trying harder, fixing themselves, becoming worthy, and earning God’s acceptance. But Jesus did not come to reveal an angry Father. Jesus came to reveal the true heart of God. The entire Christian life changes when you begin to see that the Father is good.

Jesus Came to Reveal the Father

Jesus did not come to start loving humanity. Jesus came because the Father already loved humanity. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” Notice that carefully. The Father loved first. Jesus was not convincing the Father to love us. Jesus was revealing the love the Father already had for us.

Jesus said in John 14:9, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. Jesus healed the broken. Jesus forgave sinners. Jesus touched lepers. Jesus welcomed people religion rejected. Jesus protected the woman caught in adultery. Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus revealed a Father who moves toward people in love. Hebrews 1:3 says Jesus is, “The brightness of His glory and the express image of His person.” That means Jesus perfectly reveals the Father’s heart. God is not different from Jesus. Jesus is exactly what God has always been like.

The Lie Many Believers Carry

Many believers secretly live with this fear: “What if God is against me?” Even if they would never say it out loud, many people still feel separated from God deep inside. They feel shame, fear, guilt, pressure, insecurity, and rejection. Instead of living loved, they live trying to prove themselves. But Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Notice Paul does not say, “If you perform perfectly, maybe God will be for you.” No. Paul says God is for us, right now. This changes the whole Christian life.

Jesus Appeared to the Disciples in Their Failure

After Jesus was crucified, the disciples hid behind locked doors. They were terrified. They were ashamed because they abandoned Jesus. Peter denied Him three times. The disciples thought they failed completely. Then something amazing happened. Jesus appeared in the room. John 20:19 says, “Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” Think about that. Jesus did not come condemning them. He did not shame them. He did not lecture them. He came speaking peace. Why? Because Jesus does not move away from people in their weakness. He moves toward them. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Not after we became perfect. Not after we fixed ourselves. While we were broken. This is the goodness of God.

Assurance Is the Foundation of the Christian Life

God never intended for believers to live terrified and insecure. The Christian life is meant to be lived from assurance. 1 John 4:17 says, “As He is, so are we in this world.” And 1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…” Fear is not the foundation of discipleship. Love is. There is a word in the New Testament called “parrhesia.” It means confidence, boldness, deep assurance. This assurance is not produced by trying harder. It comes from knowing Jesus. The disciples became bold after encountering the risen Christ. Paul became transformed after encountering Jesus on the Damascus road. Christianity is not just information. Christianity is encounter. Jesus reveals Himself to us personally.

Jesus Trusted the Father on the Cross

One of the greatest pictures of trust is Jesus on the cross. Everything around Him looked dark. People mocked Him, rejected Him, beat Him, hated Him. Yet Jesus still trusted the Father. Luke 23:46 says, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Jesus trusted the Father even in suffering. Why? Because Jesus knew the Father’s heart. This is real faith. Faith is not pretending pain does not exist. Faith is trusting the Father even when life hurts. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Faith says, “I may not understand everything, but I trust the goodness of God.”

Psalm 23 — God Is With You in the Valley

Psalm 23 gives us a powerful picture of God’s heart. David begins, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” A shepherd protects, leads, feeds, and stays close to his sheep. David continues, “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul.” But then David says something important: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me.” Notice this carefully. David does not deny the valley exists. But he also does not believe the valley means God abandoned him. Instead he says, “You are with me.” The valley is not proof God left you. Sometimes the valley becomes the place where you discover He was carrying you the whole time. Then David says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” Even in difficult seasons, God still provides peace, strength, grace, and comfort. Then David ends with this declaration: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” That is faith. Faith chooses to believe in the goodness of God.

John 14:20 — You Are Included in Jesus

Jesus says something powerful in John 14:20: “At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” This changes everything. Jesus is in the Father. You are in Jesus. Jesus is in you. This is not something you earn. This is something you awaken to. Colossians 1:27 says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” And Galatians 2:20 says, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” Christianity is not about trying to climb your way to God. Jesus came to humanity. Through Jesus, humanity has been brought near. Ephesians 2:13 says, “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

Growth Takes Time

Sometimes this understanding becomes clear slowly. That is okay. Spiritual growth is often like a picture slowly developing. The Holy Spirit teaches us over time. Jesus said in John 16:13, “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.” You do not have to force growth. You do not have to pretend. You simply keep turning your heart toward Jesus. Keep asking questions. Keep talking with Him. Keep learning His goodness.

The Foundation of Real Discipleship

Before ministry, before leadership, before deep theology, you must know this: God is for you. Because if you do not know this, Christianity becomes exhausting. You will constantly try to prove yourself. You will live afraid. You will perform outwardly while struggling inwardly. But when you begin to trust the Father’s goodness, everything changes. You begin to rest. You begin to trust. You begin to live loved. Romans 2:4 says, “The goodness of God leads you to repentance.” Not fear. Not terror. Not shame. His goodness.

Reflection Questions

Have I secretly believed God was disappointed in me? What changes when I see Jesus revealing the Father’s heart? What fears do I still carry about God? What stands out to me most in Psalm 23? What does John 14:20 mean to me personally?

Prayer

Father, thank You that You are for me. Thank You for sending Jesus to reveal Your heart. Help me stop living afraid of You. Teach me to trust Your goodness. Show me how loved I truly am. Help me live from peace instead of fear. Thank You that Jesus is in me and I am never alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
